York St John University  is a public university located on a single campus, across 11 acres of ground and within walking distance of the centre of York.

It achieved university status in 2006.

Over the past 10 years, the university has undergone a £100 million transformation, with facilities including a design studio, editing suites and music rooms. York is home to around 20,000 students and is one of Europe's top tourist destinations, with good transport links.

The size, the strong community ethos and the personal approach to learning have made it a special place to study for all these years.

The students and staff make a meaningful contribution to the fabric of the university and their experiences here inspire  to shape the communities throughout their lives.

The university offers students and staff personal opportunities to learn and grow – both academically and individually – and this is facilitated by the high levels of student-staff interaction within the community. It prides itself in identifying and developing potential in all the students and staff.

The university enhances the quality of the student experience, with a particular focus on learning, teaching and research. It nurtures a diverse and culturally rich community, retaining the sense of community built up over 175 years. It promises to deliver growth in the student numbers – Home/EU, international and postgraduate and ensures financial and organisational resilience.

2012-15 has been a period of growth, success and increased external recognition for the University. It has now more students than ever before and its continuation, attainment and graduate employability rates have rarely been higher. Its profile in the higher education sector is increasing through successes and  growing reputation for effective leadership and management of the University. It has worked hard on enhancing courses, facilities, academic standards, and governance and management.

Working closely with  Governors and staff across the University, it has developed an ambitious and exciting Strategic Plan for 2015-20. It is a framework that enables them to collate, understand, prioritise and monitor progress towards key objectives. Through its implementation, it will position the University to deal with turbulence in the higher education sector and to continue to offer excellent learning opportunities for all their students and staff.
