The University of Manitoba (U of M, UMN, or UMB) is a public university in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Located in Winnipeg and founded in 1877, it was Western Canada's first university.

Located in Winnipeg, it is Manitoba's largest, most comprehensive, and only research-intensive post-secondary educational institution. As a student of U and M, you’ll also benefit from real life innovators in the classroom, more undergrad research opportunities, and more chances to meet, learn from, and become one of tomorrow’s leaders.

The university's raised admissions standards, wide array of professional disciplines, and global outreach have resulted in one of the most diverse student bodies in Western Canada.

The university serves nearly 30,000 students and around 15 per cent of the student body is made up of international students from 111 countries worldwide.

It offers a large study abroad programme where students can choose from 36 countries to take part in service-learning, internships, or exchange programmes.

A total of 98 Manitoba’s students have been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship award – more than any other university in Western Canada.
