McMaster boasts many new, modern residence buildings with complete amenities. Residence is guaranteed for all international and out-of-province high school applicants who receive an offer for full-time studies in a Level 1 Program ("first year") at McMaster University.

International and out-of-province students who are guaranteed residence admission must also comply with the residence application and deposit deadline .

The university owns and operates 12 on-campus residence buildings. Traditional residences offer co-ed, single-sex, small, medium and large floor/building choices. Apartment-style living is offered in two residences: Bates Residence and Mary E. Keyes Residence.

These residencies can accommodate a little over 3000 students.

The  residences are located within a five-minute walk to classes, athletic facilities, libraries and our award-winning dining facilities. The buildings are divided into traditional dormitory style–where you live with one/two other roommates in the same bedroom or apartment/suite style–where you have a private room and share a kitchen, washroom(s) and living room with three to five other students.

McMaster also owns properties off campus in Burlington, Downtown Centre and Kitchener..

Living in Hamilton may be expensive but not as expensive as Toronto. The people in the neighbourhood are mostly friendly and grounded. The city public transport is free for students so it's a lucrative saving option.

Off-Campus Housing

While thousands of students live in residence, the majority of the McMaster students live off-campus. McMaster’s Off-Campus Resource Centre assists students to find apartments, houses, rooms within a house or other suitable off-campus living options.

McMaster’s Society of Off-Campus Students (SOCS) is also one of the largest clubs sponsored by the McMaster Students Union. SOCS strives to help students connect to McMaster, and give off-campus students a voice on campus by:

o          providing a welcoming, enjoyable, memorable and safe Welcome Week

o          assisting those who are unfamiliar with living away from home

o          organizing activities throughout the year (e.g. peer tutoring; Formal dinner; themed social events)

o          organizing intramural sports teams.
