Toronto has a large housing and rental market that offers numerous accommodation options for students. Rent can be costly in a large city like Toronto so, while there are opportunities to be found (especially if you are willing to share a space), it is very important to establish a reasonable budget and give yourself plenty of time to explore your options.

On-Campus Housing

The George Brown College student residence, The George, located at 80 Cooperage Street, Toronto ON M5A 0J3, combines the safety and convenience of being on-campus, combined with incredible student activities and an unmatched quality of service and amenities. Focus on school without worrying about monthly utility bills and 12 month leases. Simply arrive and instantly begin your George Brown College experience!

Living at The George will connect you with a community where you will make lasting friendships, experience the city, and develop a range of academic and life skills. Our residence is not just a convenient place to live, but is an important part of the overall George Brown College experience. This is your home away from home, and we offer support systems and services that aren’t easily found in other types of student housing options. Social and educational events include cooking classes, study groups, residence games & sports challenges, group trips to local events and more.

Apply early to secure your space in residence.

Homestay

Student Homestay Services (SHS), George Brown College’s long-time partner in student homestay accommodation, maintains a network of caring families who will help make your transition to living and studying in Canada a friendly and supportive experience. Homestay is a great way to start your time in Canada, particularly if you are new to the city and do not have friends or family in the area. You can stay for an initial 4 or 8 week period while familiarizing yourself with the city and the College as well as searching for a place to live that is convenient for you.

OFF CAMPUS:

Most of the accommodation listed at the Housing Service is located within approximately 30 minutes travel time from the college. Many students prefer to live within walking distance of the college. This saves money and time and also means that students can participate more easily in a variety of campus activities. However, because this accommodation is so popular, it is usually priced somewhat higher and is rented more quickly.

Shared Accommodation

While most students need to purchase and cook their own food, some listings in this category may indicate that board is available. Although your room may be furnished, you should be prepared to supply your own bedding and towels.

Room: A private bedroom with shared access to only bathroom and kitchen facilities.

Shared Apartment or House: A private bedroom with shared access to the kitchen, bathroom, living room etc.

Semi-Private: A private bedroom in a house or apartment with one or more private facilities i.e. bathroom, kitchen and/or sitting or study area.

Private Accommodation

Private accommodation is self-contained and usually has a private entrance which separates it from the rest of the building. You must be able to lock this entrance.

Apartment: A unit with a least one bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, and one or more other rooms, such as a living room, all of which are private.

Bachelor Apartment: A unit with one room for living and sleeping, as well as a bathroom and kitchen area, all of which are private.

House: A complete house for rent.
