It is important to understand that you are not automatically placed in Lakehead University Residence. Students must complete and submit an application for residence. A residence application will be included with the Office of Admissions & Recruitment letter acknowledging your application to study at Lakehead. Please note the deadline date on the residence application. Residence applications accepted after this date cannot be guaranteed room assignment. All applications are subject to availability of rooms.

If you choose to live off-campus, below are some of the ways you can find a room or apartment to rent:

•             Online - Lakehead University's off-campus housing list

•             Newspapers - accommodation in Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal, or the websites; accommodation in Orillia Packet & Times

•             Housing agencies - You can find an accommodation in Thunder Bay through Home Sweet Home. You can find an accommodation in Orillia through Lowe Properties LTD, AG Secure Property Management, AMK, or Riverbank Homes.

•             Local Housing Boards - such as Kijiji

Accommodation within close proximity to the university is very much in demand and can be difficult to find, particularly after the first week of September. Therefore, it is important that you try to arrive in Thunder Bay or Orillia as early as possible if you are planning to look for something off-campus.

Homestay is a great way to practice English and learn Canadian culture. By living with a Canadian, family, students can improve conversational English skills in daily life, participate in family activities and have a better understanding of Canadian customs and culture. Students will enjoy a home away from home.
