The University of Silesia in Katowice is one of the largest and most dynamically developing public universities in Poland. Founded in 1968, the university quickly established a reputation as a vibrant academic institution and an important interdisciplinary research hub. With outstanding research teams and well-equipped laboratories, the university is an important player on the global research arena.

With a tradition of launching new programmes to best meet the needs of rapidly changing labour markets, the University of Silesia offers students a variety of programmes and specialised fields of study.When planning new programmes it also takes into account guidelines concerning programmes which are regarded as being of special value to the economy, including those which are granted the status of specialties ordered by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

 As a result, the university’s offer includes more and more engineering degree programmes. The University has almost 40,000 intramural and extramural students at the BA, MA, postgraduate and Ph.D. level students following 46 undergraduate and postgraduate programs subdivided into over 130 specializations. All courses are recognized by the ECTS, which facilitates international student exchange. The University of Silesia also offers numerous doctoral degree programmes which allow students to deepen their knowledge of various disciplines and provide them with opportunities to conduct interesting and innovative research projects.

For Bachelor's studies:

Secondary school leaving certificate (legalized or given an apostille) obtained abroad entitling to study at all types of universities in the country appropriate to the education system issuing the certificate. Document should be legalized or given an apostille and translated into Polish language by sworn (certified) translator. Candidate should also provide a statement that his school leaving certificate allows him to take up the first cycle studies in the country it was issued – if such a statement is not already written on the certificate.

For Master's studies:

Bachelor's degree diploma (together with a supplement, if applicable) or another document of completion of studies abroad, which allow to start the second cycle studies in the country it was issued. Diploma should be legalized or given an apostille and translated into Polish language by sworn (certified) translator. Candidate should also provide a statement that his diploma allows him to take up the second cycle studies in the country it was issued – if such a statement is not already written on the diploma.

For Doctoral studies:

Master's degree diploma (together with a supplement, if applicable) or another document of completion of studies abroad, which allow to start the third cycle studies in the country it was issued. Diploma should be legalized or given an apostille and translated into Polish language by sworn (certified) translator. The university offers excellent conditions for study and leisure. With 10 student dormitories, the University of Silesia can provide accommodation for all its international students.

The University Rector will consider the demands for fee reduction on individual basis, taking into account material status of the candidate.

Besides,  authorities would support efforts of approved candidates to procure financial support from both governmental and international agencies and nongovernmental institutions.

The tuition fee varies from 1500 euros to about 2,500 euros per semester, depending on the programme.

COST OF LIVING

It is difficult to estimate the costs of living - they obviously depend on your needs and ways of spending free time. However, it seems that PLN 1500 per month should cover the monthly expenses, including housing, food, study materials, transportation and social activities.
