Maritime University of Szczecin is a public school continuing a long lasting tradition of sea-related education in the West Pomeranian Region,  Szczecin, Poland , the history of which dates back to 1947. The profile of the university is maritime education .

 Its  mission is to educate highly qualified marine crew i.e.navigators and mechanical engineers who perfectly cater for the needs of passenger, merchant and fishing fleets as well as on-shore staff prepared to use modern IT solutions to efficiently process and manage data in the transport-forwarding-logistics industry.

 The University boasts over 100 well-equipped laboratories, a modern research-training ship - the m/s Nawigator XXI and 16 most technically advanced simulators such as: Ship Handling, LNG Training Centre, Anti-Collision ARPA, Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), Satellite Communication System - GMDSS, Cargo Handling, Fishing etc. They make the  University one of the best-equipped maritime universities in the world. Moreover, MUS has been actively participating in numerous international projects which resulted in acquiring state-of-the-art research and didactic infrastructure, as well as in researching into most pressing, maritime- and transport- related issues (between 2007-2015 the value of MUS projects amounted to ca.20 MEUR).

This 70 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. MUS also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, sport facilities and/or activities, study abroad and exchange programs, as well as administrative services.

English at least B2 level (the most common options are an official language certificate or secondary school leaving certificate, university-level or postgraduate diploma confirming that the completed programme of studies was delivered entirely in English).

International English Language Testing System IELTS —over 6 points

must hold a previous education certificate giving him/her a right to apply for admission to a selected cycle of higher education:

o             matriculation certificate (the Matura certificate) or another equivalent document attesting that its holder is eligible for admission to 1st cycle (undergraduate) higher education programmes in the country in which he or she completed secondary school or which may give the holder such right in Poland on the basis of an administrative decision or an international agreement

Maritime University students are offered accommodation in the dormitories/ residence halls  (PL: akademiki) which are located 300 meters from the main building of the University. KORAB and PASSAT are two, ten-storied buildings which can accommodate nearly 1000 students. The dorms offer double and triple rooms which, grouped into two or four, share one self-contained bathroom. Each room is equipped with standard furniture (bunk and single beds, cupboards, wardrobes, desks, chairs) as well as with basic equipment like duvets, pillows and sheets.

The dormitories are situated in the vicinity of beautiful Zeromski Park, not far from Plac Rodla, the city’s major transport junction with numerous bus and tramway stops. Moreover, the campus is just 5 minutes away from the city centre with shopping centres (Galaxy and Kaskada), cinemas, theatres, restaurants as well as the historic old town.

The total monthly rent in student dormitory amounts to PLN 350 (around EUR 90). Dorms are open during the whole academic year except summer holidays.

Private accommodation

In Szczecin, like in any other academic centre, students are offered rooms or flats for rent. Choosing a suitable offer, it is important to remember about drawing up a tenancy agreement with the landlord. Without this document, it will not be possible to register for temporary residence in Szczecin, which is obligatory for foreigners. Also, such an agreement is a guarantee for the tenant assuring legality, security and confidence that you will not lose a place to live overnight.


There is a number of hostels in Szczecin that offer affordable accommodation in various parts of the city.
