Krakow is a wonderful place to study and housing is generally more affordable than in the United States or Western Europe. Student housing is generally inexpensive. A month's rent for a flat, including utility fees (electricity, gas, water etc.) will generally come to anywhere between U.S. $150 (110 euro) to $500 (380 euro) and for a room at a JU hall of residence you will pay around 360 PLN (about $100) a month.

Jagiellonian University halls of residence in the centre or close to the centre include: Zaczek, Piast, and Nawojka and the  international students usually choose one of them.

Zaczek is the most popular. Rooms are usually shared by two people. Additional information can be found at:

Private accommodation

If you do not want to live in a student dorm, you will probably be looking for a room to rent. Do not worry, it is not a difficult task, and the prices can be as low as 400 PLN per month, if you are willing to share a room. You can seek help at the accommodation and employment agency (Biuro Posrednictwa Mieszkan i Pracy), ran by the "Bratniak" Foundation for JU Students and Alumni (

There are many other websites—Facebook groups, student forums—where you can find dozens of offers published by persons looking for flat mates.

Once you have arrived in Krakow, you will find that the process is not as difficult as it may seem. Thousands of foreign students live here and find housing within a few days of their arrival. We do, however, advise that you arrive in advance of your course of studies to give yourself time to secure a flat.

There are a number of scholarships available within the limits defined in bilateral  agreements.

They are financed either by the Polish or the foreign partner’s government, often with the aim to enhance exchange within a specific field of study.

The amount of a scholarship depends on the type of study undertaken.

It is also advisable to check with local authorities if they have a scholarship programme that includes studies in Poland.

Quick Facts

The tuition fees range from EUR 2000 to 6000 per year and depends on the study program .

Cost of living in Poland is low depending on your lifestyle and the city you pursue your studies. Bigger cities like Warsaw, Wroclaw etc are usually expensive. A budget of 250 Euro to 400 Euro should be enough to take care of a student’s feeding, accommodation, buying of books, etc for one month. This amount is just an estimate and could be higher or lower depending on factors like your spending habits and the city of your residence.
