Accommodation

Whether you’re from out of town or want to enjoy the full experience by flatting with your fellow students, Otago Polytechnic can help you find a suitable place to live, and provide ongoing accommodation assistance and support. Where you live will depend on which campus your programme is offered at.

Depending on where you are studying, the options for accommodation can include the following:

•             Supervised accommodation, such as a private hall of residence

•             Flatting, mostly these are unfurnished but furnished options are available

•             Studio and hostel accommodation, for example YMCA or YWCA

•             Homestay, giving you the opportunity to live with a local family.

Dunedin campus

A selection of room types are available to suit individual accommodation needs, from catered dormitory rooms, to four-bedroom apartments and studios.

Purpose-built for students, it’s the perfect home to enjoy student life to the full!

The  brand new, on-campus Student Village will be open to students for the first time in 2018!

The 231-bed furnished residential village offers fully-catered single rooms (dorms), and self-catered studios (standard or deluxe) and four-bedroom apartments. With its prime location, you will enjoy a short walk to campus whilst still only being minutes from the city centre, giving you the freedom to explore Dunedin's vibrant student culture.

Salmond College is an easy 15-minute walk from our Dunedin Campus. It has great facilities for study and recreation and a communal eating area for meals. Free study tutorials are also available.

Dorm rooms are fully catered, apartment rooms and studios are self catered.

Central Otago :

There is a wide range of accommodation options for students in Central Otago. Choose between renting a room in a flat, staying in a studio or hostel, or homestay accommodation.

Flatting accommodation

Many students love the experience of renting a house together with friends and other students. When flatting, you will share living costs such as electricity, telephone and food..

Otago Polytechnic manages a small amount of rental property within Cromwell, which will cost $125-$143 per week plus expenses.

Studio and hostel accommodation

The Chalets (www.thechaletscromwell.co.nz) is an unsupervised hostel where you can rent a single room for $125 per week, including electricity. Students are usually placed together in one of the chalets, sharing lounge, bathroom and kitchen facilities.

Homestay accommodation

In a homestay, you will live with a local family in their home. There is limited availability of homestay accommodation in Central Otago.
