The Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is one of the fastest growing government owned tertiary institutes in New Zealand with 10,000 full-time and part-time students. Established in 1974 , has three campuses: Hawke's Bay, Gisborne & Auckland.

The programmes at EIT combine practical skills with a sound theory base. EIT aims to meet the demands of the region’s key industry groups as well as the wider employment market, and networks closely with the community. In addition to programmes in Business, Computing, and Health Science, EIT offers unique programmes in areas such as Wine Science and Viticulture, Screen Production, Professional Cookery, and Sport and Recreation.

EIT Hawke's Bay offers an excellent lifestyle & plenty of sunshine, with a variety of restaurants, cafés and wine trails. The choice of entertainment options is extensive, with plenty of outdoor adventure activities available. Compared with bigger centres, Hawke's Bay has another key bonus: stress-free commuting. With only a 15 - 20 minute commuting time between Napier and Hastings, congestion on the roads is virtually unheard of in this region. Studying at Eastern Institute of Technology also means that accommodation and travel costs are lower, compared with other provincial areas.

With industry focused programmes, which combine practical skills with a sound theory base, well qualified and experienced lecturers and tutors, the latest facilities, and an excellent graduate employment rate, EIT is a great choice for international students.

Accommodation at EIT

EIT offers a wide range of accommodation options to international students.

EIT Napier offers three accommodation options to international students – EIT Student Village, homestay and the Flats on York. Students are also welcome to make their own accommodation arrangements

There are many different types of accommodation available for international students in Auckland. EIT Auckland has identified two accommodation options that may be suitable for you, including homestay with a New Zealand family or flatting at one of our partner apartment complexes.

Student Village (Napier campus)

The Student Village at EIT’s Hawke’s Bay campus is a complex of 12 villas housing with six students in each. The Village is situated across the road from the campus and students have their own furnished bedroom with shared cooking, bathroom, and lounge facilities. The Student Village at EIT, Hawke’s Bay has been rated as 4-star plus accommodation by New Zealand Qualmark.

In Auckland, apartment accommodation is available near to the Auckland campus.

Homestay Accommodation

EIT’s Accommodation Officer has a network of carefully selected local families who provide accommodation to international students in their family homes. EIT’s Homestay programme is a unique opportunity to learn the language and understand about New Zealand culture and family life.

Flatting

Students may choose to rent accommodation together with friends after they have been in New Zealand for a while and feel more comfortable with New Zealand culture. Students need to have a good level of English before they go flatting as they will need to be able to understand the Tenancy Agreement, organise payment of bills, and communicate clearly with the landlord. The International Centre has information to help students who chose to go flatting.

The Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) offers numerous scholarships to the international students. These scholarships provide a small contribution to assist students entering higher level programmes realise their goal of studying  Scholarships for Bachelor of wine science and Bachelor of Viticulture are open to students nationwide.  The scholarships are free for one year.  You can visit the official website to know details about scholarships. please contact international@eit.ac.nz

FEES

fees ranges from 18,300 NZ$ to 32,000 NZ$ and varies for course to course.

COST OF LIVING

The cost of living in Napier is substantially cheaper than the larger cities in New Zealand. You will need to budget your weekly expenses. Students may spend more or less depending on their individual circumstances, but EIT staff members are also available to assist with budgeting information. It may take some time to secure a part-time job (if you are eligible to work in New Zealand), and therefore it is important to have enough funds to cover your living expenses for several months. New Zealand Immigration Service requires a student to have NZ$15,000 in their bank account to cover living costs for one year of study, or NZ$1,250 per month, plus a return ticket to their home country.
