The University of Reading is a public university located in Reading , Berkshire in England.

It was the only university to receive the charter to grant its own degrees by Royal Charter in 1926 between two world wars.

The university is usually categorised as a red brick university , reflecting its original foundation in the nineteenth century.

 It offers a wide range of degree programmes encompassing the pure and applied sciences, social sciences, languages, arts, humanities and business.

With a reputation for multidisciplinary research and collaborations, the university comprises over 50 research centres, which are recognised centres of excellence, in areas that include agriculture, meteorology, the physical sciences, and European history and culture.

The university has a strong global presence, with a business school located in Johannesburg, an overseas campus in Malaysia and a newly established joint Academy with Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in China. It is also runs the Thames Valley Science Park, a cluster of 70 high-tech companies located on its Whiteknights campus.

Reading’s various campuses also feature a sports park, a film theatre, four museums, 300,000 plant specimens, lakes, meadows and a cherry tree orchard.

Reading is a lively city famed for hosting one of the biggest annual music festivals in the UK.  The Berkshire town is also home to an abundance of parks, shopping and sports facilities and is a short walk from the campus and is just half an hour journey by train to London.

Accommodation for International Students

·        If students make Reading their first choice, firmly accept a place, and return their application for accommodation by the relevant deadline, they are guaranteed a study bedroom in university accommodation.

·        All hall accommodation is either on campus or within easy walking distance of campus, local shops, banks and social facilities, with bus routes nearby.

·        The university offers both self-catered and catered accommodation, all with internet access. Some Halal meals are available in catered halls and packed lunches can be provided during Ramadan.

·        Accommodation contracts are available for 40 weeks, or 51 weeks including the full summer vacation. Both contracts include Christmas and Easter vacations.

·        Accommodation is available for mature students, couples and families.

Accommodation costs will vary depending on whether you choose standard, premium or private accommodation, and how long you are staying. Prices can vary from around £100 to £200 per week.

·        New full-time postgradute students are guaranteed accommodation if they accept the university's offer of a place, apply for accommodation by the application deadline and fulful the conditions of their offer by the specified date.

The University offers £4M worth of scholarships each year in addition to national programmes from both the British government and Indian government.
