The Australian National University (ANU) is a national research university located in Canberra, the capital of Australia and seat of government.

Its main campus in Acton encompasses seven teaching and research colleges, in addition to several national academies and institutes.

Established in 1946 as a nation-building institution, Australia’s only national university has a distinct mission, and a reputation that places it among the finest universities in the world.

With a long institutional tradition of doing research of national and international significance, ANU makes major contributions to Australian public policy debate. ANU scholars have shaped key aspects of the Australian higher education, immigration, and citizenship systems, as well as regional economic policy development and even United States’ nuclear strategy.

The University’s global influence is amplified through its membership of the International Alliance of Research Universities which includes Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, Berkeley, ETH Zurich, the National University of Singapore, and the universities of Peking, Tokyo, Cape Town and Copenhagen. ANU is a member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, as well as the Group of Eight, a coalition of Australia’s leading universities.

The University’s reputation attracts people from around the world, with one third of students and many staff coming from overseas. More than half the student body study at postgraduate level, and all students enjoy small class sizes and direct access to world-class scholars.

For academic and professional staff, ANU offers excellent conditions including flexible working arrangements, professional development opportunities, competitive pay and generous superannuation - all within an integrated and engaged on-campus community.

Up to 5,000 students live on campus, receiving full pastoral, academic and social support to optimise their success.  ANU consistently ranks highest in Australia, and exceptionally high internationally for graduate employability .

Live on campus or take a short commute from one of Canberra’s well-connected neighbourhoods.

On-campus

ANU Undergraduate Accommodation Guarantee

The university  guarantees  accommodation to interstate domestic students and international students who:

 > receive and accept their offer to study at ANU within the advertised dates

 > Apply for accommodation before the advertised closing date

 > are in their first year of study at ANU

 > are enrolled full-time.

ANU has eleven different residences for undergraduate students. You can nominate a fully catered, self-catered or apartment-style residence. All have laundry facilities, outdoor spaces and study rooms, and are within easy walking distance to shops, cafes, restaurants, sporting facilities, nightlife and public transport.

For more information on  accommodation guarantee, please visit: anu.edu.au/study/accommodation/adviceprocedures/accommodation-guarantee

ANU gives you more opportunities to live on campus than any other Australian university, so you can make the most of your time here. Apply to join nearly 5,000 students from across Australia and around the world who call ANU home.

Postgraduate students can apply for on-campus accommodation in these residences:

 Self-catered

 > Burgmann College Postgraduate Village

 > Davey Lodge

 > Fenner Hall

 > Graduate House

 > Kinloch Lodge

 > Lena Karmel Lodge

> Toad Hall

 > Warrumbul Lodge

 > Bruce Hall Packard Wing

> Ursula Hall Laurus Wing

The university  cannot guarantee that on-campus accommodation will be available. Also, student residences are not suitable for children, so you may need to explore renting off-campus (non-ANU).

OFF CAMPUS:

We recommend arriving in Canberra early to find non ANU accommodation.

Griffin Hall

Griffin Hall is a unique 'non-residential' hall created for students who live off campus. Celebrating diversity, Griffin Hall is open to all non-residential students at the ANU – including undergraduate, postgraduate, domestic and international students. Griffin provides the opportunity for students who live off campus to engage with sports, arts and social events coordinated by the interhall network. Peer support is also offered to foster the wellbeing and success of members in all aspects of their university experience.

Share a house or apartment

Shared accommodation can be hard to find if you’re not in Canberra. Shared households in Australia take different forms; some share meals and rotate household chores, while others have multiple people living in the same house but keeping separate lives. A good place to start looking for shared accommodation is ANU Housing Online.

 W housingonline.anu.edu.au

 W anu.edu.au/study/accommodation/advice-procedures/ group-housing

 Rent privately

You can rent an apartment or house privately through a real estate agent or direct from the property owner. The best place to start your search is online.

 We suggest these sites:

 W allhomes.com.au

 W domain.com.au

Because Canberra is a university town, the highest turnover of rental properties is during the December/January summer break.
