The University of Melbourne (informally Melbourne University) is a public research university located in Melbourne, Australia.

Postgraduate qualifications

Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country.

Entry requirements: Graduate Research Degrees

Applicants for a graduate research degree (also known as a research higher degree) are normally required to have completed at least a four-year Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent and achieved an overall average of greater than 75% in the relevant degree. Please note that these are minimum requirements; you should check with your prospective Faculty or Graduate School to determine the entry requirements that apply to the degree you wish to undertake.

•             You are normally required to have completed a research project/component that accounts for at least 25% of your year's work at 4th year undergraduate or masters, level.

•             Based on an interview or other communication, an assessment will be made of the level of understanding, motivation and time commitment of the graduate researcher for the proposed program of study. For example, a full-time researcher would be expected to devote at least 40 hours per week.

 Residential colleges

 There are 11 colleges for undergraduate students, located on and around the Parkville campus.

Student apartments and hostels

 Student apartments are properties specifically designed for university students. They are usually fully furnished and some provide community activities.

 Share housing and private rentals

 Rental properties can be leased from a landlord or real estate agent. You can rent alone or with friends, or move into an already established share house.

 Homestay

 Homestay means you live with a family, a couple or a single person in their own home. Each situation is different and can include part board (room only), full board (room plus meals) or board in exchange for household duties.
