Southern Cross University (SCU) is an established Australian public university, with campuses at Lismore and Coffs Harbour in northern New South Wales, and at the southern end of the Gold Coast in Queensland.

All applicants must have an assessable entry qualification from a country where English is the main language and where the medium of instruction for that qualification was English, or demonstrate proficiency of English by an IELTS overall score of 7.0 with no less than 6.5 across each of the bands of reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Postgraduate entry requirements

Students are required to have a degree considered by the University to be equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree. Students without a degree but with substantial relevant work experience may be admitted to a Graduate Diploma or Masters.

Higher Degree Research

Postgraduate research at the University is referred to as higher degree by research (HDR) study. It does not include coursework; rather, the candidate selects a research topic which is of particular relevance to his or her professional and/or personal interests. Students must have completed a degree considered by the University to be equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree with first class Honours or second class Honours, first division, or have completed a degree equivalent to an Australian Masters degree where at least 50% of the assessment was based on a thesis.

Students must also demonstrate the educational preparation and capacity to pursue a research degree. This may be through their general and professional qualifications

Southern Cross University offers services to help you find private rental off-campus (UniStays) or accommodations at one of  on-campus residential colleges (SCU Village).

On-campus accommodation (SCU Village)

Southern Cross University works closely with student accommodation specialists, Campus Living Villages. A range of on-campus accommodation options are available at four residential colleges across the Lismore and Coffs Harbour campuses. Apartments are modern and fully furnished, with their own kitchen, lounge, dining area and bathroom. At both Lismore and Coffs Harbour, you can enjoy quality on-campus accommodation just minutes away from class. Both villages offer the ‘Live, Learn and Grow’ Residential Life Program designed to help you meet new people, support your studies and develop life skills in a supportive and friendly environment. From social events and sporting competitions, to cooking classes and study support, SCU Village aims to provide an excellent residential experience throughout your university career. Dedicated resident assistant teams at both sites, as well as a community coordinator at Lismore, are available to provide assistance and help you settle into your new community.

SCU Village at Lismore offers a range of two-to-six-bedroom apartments at three locations – Orion, Sirius and Magellan colleges. All enjoy a community spirit and active Residential Life Program for you to engage in, as you complete your studies. Facilities at each college include internet access and on-site laundries. You can also enjoy a range of new and improved facilities, including outdoor entertainment areas and movie facilities. Sirius and Orion each feature revamped common areas, a study room and in-ground swimming pool, while Magellan features a new common room and outdoor games area.

 SCU Village at Coffs Harbour provides modern, fully furnished four-bedroom apartments with wireless internet access, laundry facilities, and a recreation lounge for group gatherings and organised social events. A study centre designed for individual quiet study or group sessions is also available. The Village offers an inclusive and friendly community where you can feel right at home, just a twominute walk away from the campus.

SCU Village is managed by Campus Living Villages in partnership with SCU. From movie nights and themed parties to study groups and cooking classes, life on-campus offers everything you need to make the most of your university experience.

While living on-campus is one way to experience university, UniStays is a free service that helps you find off-campus accommodation, to live a more independent lifestyle. UniStays manages long and short-term accommodation options, such as share-houses, apartments and granny flats.
