The University of Wollongong (UOW), informally known as Wollongong University, is an Australian public research university located in the coastal city of Wollongong, New South Wales, approximately 80 kilometres south of Sydney.

The University of Wollongong has fundamentally developed into a multi-campus institution, three of which are in the Illawarra (Wollongong, Shoalhaven and Innovation Campus in North Wollongong), one in Sydney and one overseas in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

In addition, there are university education centres in Bega, Batemans Bay, Moss Vale and Loftus as well as the Sydney Business School in the City of Sydney.

It works with academic and industry partners to solve the world’s toughest problems, from food security and economic turmoil to climate change and disease. UOW’s 131,000 alumni are also making their mark on the world, as leaders in business, IT, engineering, the arts, science, medical science, law, education and more. It has become one of the best modern universities in the world: dynamic, agile and prominent in national and international rankings for the quality of their teaching, research, student experience and outcomes. UOW is strongly focused on interdisciplinary research that has a real impact on our lives and contributes to solving global challenges.

In Australia, UOW Wollongong brings together 24,500 students and staff from over 160 nationalities. It has links with over 200 universities in 35 countries, and around the world 7,000 students are earning UOW degrees in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.

UOW is about exploring new ideas; gaining experience; expanding your skills; and extending yourself outside of your coursework. UOW provides opportunities to participate in a range of programs—from community volunteering to mentoring others to achieve their best. UOW offers over 450 degree programs through faculties of Business; Science, Medicine and Health; Engineering and Information Sciences; Social Sciences; and Law, Humanities and The Arts

The UOW main campus is located in Wollongong – the ninth largest city in Australia, only an hour south of Sydney in New South Wales. It is a vibrant city that offers the perfect Australian lifestyle. With 17 surf beaches, a thriving sporting community, a rapidly growing music scene and strong cultural diversity, Wollongong is a university city that’s set up for student life.

UOW is proud to be one of the few Australian universities to offer an accommodation guarantee.

UOW Living provides a range of living options that suit differing budgets and living needs. It is also continuing to grow to meet students needs with an additional 800 beds to be available by 2018 in brand new modern, self-catered facilities that will be on campus.

UOW Living has a range of living options - catered, self-catered, single rooms, twin share, units, and studios - and all are either on campus or a short distance from UOW.

It's important to note that while you can nominate your room preferences, it cannot guarantee any specific preference. Some residences fill faster than others and it's important to think carefully about what type of residence would suit your needs. We suggest you nominate at least three different residences. This maximises your chances of getting a 'best fit'.

However, we recommend you apply as early as possible as you'll be more likely to get your room preference.

ALL RESIDENCES feature student development and peer mentor programs, social, sporting and cultural events, and 24/7 student wellbeing care. Utilities, furniture, laundry, limited car parking and environmentally responsible recycling programs are available are available at each residence.

Many students say one of the best parts of the university experience is living in a residence. Rarely will you have the chance to live in a community that has people from so many walks of life and countries. At UOW Living you will benefit from an environment committed to providing high academic achievement, involvement, development and fun.

UOW offers a number of scholarships for students living in accommodation, based on both equity and excellence. Having your first-year costs covered means one less thing to worry about. The scholarships available to students for accommodation are 11 x General Residential Scholarships worth $18,000, 4 x Living + Learning Partners Residential Equity Scholarships worth $5,000, and 2 x Living + Learning Partners Residential Scholarship for Excellence worth $15,000.

If you like a truly independent lifestyle, an option you might like to consider is private, shared or single accommodation. Detailed information about these options, your rights as a tenant and general hints and tips can be found on the Accommodation Services website.

For those who prefer a family-oriented lifestyle, Homestays (living with a local family in a private home) are available.

More about accommodation details on university website.

UOW provides a generous range of scholarships and bursaries for study at undergraduate and postgraduate coursework level – and a range of financial support programs for those undertaking research programs at UOW.
