Queen's University Belfast (informally Queen's or QUB) is a public research university in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It  boasts a cohort of more than 20,000 – including 2,800 international students from 100 countries – enrolled across three faculties: arts, humanities and social sciences; medical, health and life sciences; and engineering and physical sciences.

It is steeped in heritage yet benefits from world-class, state-of-the-art facilities. With over 100 listed buildings on its city campus, QUB is considered one of the most beautiful of all universities. Its stunning architecture was designed by Sir Charles Lanyon, the architect who also designed other major historical landmarks in Belfast such as Belfast Castle and Customs House.

Queen’s has a history of investing in people and building brighter futures. It’s a place where learning and research come together to create new and exciting global opportunities. It is highly respected across the globe as a centre of teaching excellence and innovative research. Taught by top academics, these degrees enable you to become an expert in your chosen field, with the prospect of a top career in a multi-national company.

The university has a rich heritage and a renowned history of producing Nobel Laureates, leading global academics and national and international leaders over the last 170 years.

Queen's is at the heart of Belfast's culture, as well as its art and social scenes. It is a part of a bustling, cosmopolitan city boasting a vibrant social life and rich cultural heritage.

The cutting-edge facilities include a financial Trading Room with Bloomberg terminals, interdisciplinary health and life sciences research facilities and innovative engineering hubs.

The university has benefitted from a recent investment in its infrastructure, with over £350m spent on buildings and improved facilities, including the construction of a new graduate school and the Wellcome Wolfson Building Centre for Experimental Medicine, which hopes to attract over 1000 leading scientists and clinicians from around the world.

The Queen’s Graduate School is a dedicated social and academic space for postgraduate students.

Global Research Institutes are flagships for interdisciplinary research in areas of major societal challenge. They bring together a critical mass of excellent researchers from a wide range of disciplines in world-class facilities to tackle some of the greatest global issues of our age.

Alongside academic study, the university places an equal emphasis on the acquisition of practical skills relevant to the workplace. It recently introduced 'employer partnership degrees' that allow students to combine work placements with classroom studies.Student entrepreneurs also have access to free business incubation space and start-up support, while career services include an alumni mentoring scheme that gives undergraduates the opportunity to be paired with high-achieving graduates to help support their career goals.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must meet both the academic and English language entry requirements for their course. In general these are:

IELTS: 6.5 (minimum of 5.5 in all four components of the test); However, some degree programmes have higher or lower requirements (please check individual programme requirements in the relevant undergraduate or postgraduate University Coursefinder.

·        INTO Queen's University Belfast offers a wide range of English Language courses to assist students to meet the required standard of English language to be eligible for entry to degree programmes at the university.

Further information on other acceptable qualifications is available on the university website, as well as information for nationals of countries deemed by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to be majority-English-speaking, and therefore assumed to meet the UKVI English language requirements for immigration purposes.

Students with the following qualifications will be considered for direct entry to Queen's University Belfast's Bachelor degree programmes:

  • The Standard Indian XII (10+2) examinations from CBSE, CISCE or State Boards of Higher Secondary Education are acceptable for admission to our Bachelor degree programmes.

An average mark of 70 - 85% or higher in the Standard Indian XII Higher Secondary School certificates awarded by the central boards (CBSE, CISCE) or a state board, or equivalent, with 75% or higher where subject requirements are stipulated (comparable with Grade B at A Level).

Typical offers (minimum overall average) for applicants with Standard XII would be as follows:

- 85% (comparable to AAB at A-Level)
- 80% (comparable to ABB at A-Level)
- 75% (comparable to BBB at A-Level)
- 70% (comparable to BBC at A Level)

To be considered for entry to Medicine or Dentistry, applicants should hold the Indian Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Grade XII with a minimum of 90% overall, including marks of at least 90% in Chemistry and Biology.

If you do not meet these requirements you may be eligible to apply for entry to the INTO Queen's International Foundation. These programmes are based on the campus and help you to prepare for study with them. Successful completion guarantees progression to Stage 1 of an undergraduate degree programme at Queen's (with the exception of Agricultural Technology, Medicine, Dentistry and Social Work).

English Language Requirements

For admission to most Bachelor degree programmes (excluding Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy), the University will normally accept 70% in English Language in Standard XII in lieu of an IELTS Academic test, if awarded by one of the following Indian examination boards:

  • All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Delhi Senior School Certificate Examination) awarded by the Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE
  • Indian School Certificate (Year 12) awarded by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).

POSTGRADUATE E

Entry to graduate diploma or taught masters programmes at Queen's University Belfast usually requires either a UK upper second-class (2:1) or a lower second-class (2:2) undergraduate degree. For most courses, your major subject or content of your Bachelor degree may also be considered. Please check the Postgraduate Course Finder for exact entry requirements.

The comparable Indian qualifications are as follows:

UK Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1)

Successful completion of Bachelor degree with:

  • First Division Pass and a minimum final average of 60% (in the traditional system), or
  • CGPA 7.5 out of 10 on the 10 point scale; or 7.0 out of 10 if this equates to 'Good' in the institutional grading system, or
  • 4.0 out of 6.0/B/Good in the 6-point system

UK Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2)

Successful completion of Bachelor degree with:

  • Second Division Pass and a minimum final average of 55% (in the traditional system), or
  • CGPA 7.0 out of 10 on the 10 point scale; or 6.0 - 6.5 out of 10 if this equates to 'Above Average' in the institutional grading system, or
  • 3.5 out of 6.0/C+/Average+ in the 6-point system

Please note that other important factors considered in the assessment of applications are performance in relevant modules at undergraduate level, and the number of attempts taken to achieve the final grade.

Where a CGPA system is used, the scoring system used by each institution will be taken into account and applications considered on an individual basis

The university takes into account that at some of India's most prestigious higher education institutions it is rare to be awarded a First Class degree. For this reason, it may be possible at the discretion of the Selector to consider candidates from top institutions who have achieved a very good Second Class degree with a final average of 58% or above (where a UK 2:1 is required), or 53% (where a UK 2:2 is required).

Students interested in undertaking a PhD at Queen’s University need good grades in their Bachelor and Masters degree programmes awarded by a recognised university, in addition to a strong research proposal.
