Aberdeen is a smart and pleasant city with a cosmopolitan and rather wealthy feel to it. It's affectionately called the Granite City after the primary building material, and it really does sparkle in the sun. Within minutes of leaving the city centre, you can be surfing off the Aberdeen coast or in the heart of rural Aberdeenshire.
