About University: Academically strong across the board it may be - and it is - but Loughborough is still famous for its strength in sport. It's proud of its reputation in teaching, studying and participating in all sorts of sweaty activities, though it probably is possible to be a student here without once being compelled to don a sweatband and take to a pitch of some variety. Indeed, art and culture are taken seriously here, too. The Midlands market town is about a mile away from campus. The university is the town's biggest employer and students are a major part of the population here. The student union is unique as it's the only one in the country that is physically owned by the students. The rest of the 437-acre campus is a safe and pleasant place to spend time, with good facilities for all aspects of student life, including - what else? - sport.

Bursaries: The Loughborough scholarship programme provides a cash bursary and in some cases tuition fee waiver to those who fall within a qualifying household income band. In 2015-16 a bursary of up to £2,000 a year is available to those on a three-year course with a household income of up to £22,000. Mature students and registered care-leavers and those studying a foundation year or integrated masters are eligible for an enhanced scholarship package.

Additional forms of support are also available such as development trust scholarships, worth £9,000 over three years, which provide support to UK undergraduates from low HE participation areas who achieve ABB at A-level or equivalent.
