About University: Founded in 1869 by a committee including Thomas Burns, the university opened in July 1871. Its motto is "Sapere aude" ("Dare to be wise"). In addition to the main Dunedin campus, the university has small facilities in Auckland and Wellington (based at the Wellington Centre). The medical schools have larger campuses near Christchurch and Wellington Hospitals.It had over 21,000 students enrolled during 2011.

Otago is known for its student life, particularly its flatting, which is often in old sub-standard houses.The university is divided into four academic division- Division of Humanities, Division of Health Sciences, Division of Sciences and School of Business.

1. University of Otago New Frontiers Scholarship- Scholarship to recognize academic excellence in secondary school study.
2. University of Otago Academic Excellence Scholarship- Scholarships awarded on the basis of academic excellence and leadership.
3. University of Otago Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship- Scholarships awarded on the basis of leadership and academic performance.
4. University of Otago Māori and Pacific Peoples' Scholarship- Scholarships awarded on the basis of academic ability and community involvement.
5. University of Otago Performance Scholarships (including the University of Otago Callis Trust Performance Scholarship)-  Scholarships awarded on the basis of elite level performance in a sporting or cultural activity and academic performance.

Accommodation: Living in a community helps the students to meet new people and this also helps them to settle down more easily. They are expected to be active participants in the social, cultural and recreational programmes organized by the residents' association.

Students are given the choice to live in Aquinas College (under 18 year olds), Residential College (fourteen residential colleges, which provide food, accommodation, social and welfare services) and University Flats (University managed flats/houses).

Ranking: The University of Otago, in 2012, rank 133 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), 201–300 in Academic Ranking of World Universities and 226–250 by Times Higher Education.

Admission Requirement*:

Undergraduate: You are required to provide scanned copies of your official high school or foundation transcripts (awards gained, marks, grades) with your application. You are required to sit for International Undergraduate Entrance Examination.

Postgraduate: You are required to provide scanned copies of your previous official academic transcripts (awards gained, marks, grades) with your application. High school results are not necessary. You may also be required to submit an Educational Credential Evaluators report (ECE).

IELTS Requirements: 

Undergraduate: Score of 6.0 in the academic module (with no individual band below 6.0).

Postgraduate: Score of 6.5 in the academic module (with no individual band below 6.0).

Fees Range:

Undergraduate:  The annual tuition fees range is 25,00 to 36,00 NZ$.

Postgraduate: The annual tuition fees range is 17,000 to 90,000 NZ$ depending open the course you wish to apply.
