About University: It is New Zealand's second oldest university.This univesity was founded in 1873.Its main campus is in the suburb of Ilam.

The university offers a wide range of degrees in Arts, Commerce, Education (physical education), Engineering, Fine Arts, Forestry, Health Sciences, Law, Music, Social Work, Speech and Language Pathology, Science, Sports Coaching and Teaching.The University was awarded the 2006 Cycle Friendly Award for the best cycle-friendly commitment by a public organisation in New Zealand The University has its own studet body known as The University of Canterbury Students' Association (UCSA).

UCSA operates on campus having its own radio station and magazine.The Association also runs two bars and several cafes around campus. Before the devastating earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, the UCSA also ran the now damaged 430-seat Ngaio Marsh Theatre.

Accommodation: It has six halls of residence housing around 1800 students.The largest of these are Ilam Apartments and University Hall with 850 residents and 550 residents, respectively. Three of these halls (Ilam Apartments, University Hall and Sonoda Christchurch Campus) are managed by UC Accommodation, a subsidiary of Campus Living Villages, while the university maintains ownership of the property and buildings. Homestay and private board are popular choices with international, study abroad and exchange students when they first arrive in Christchurch.

Ranking: In 2011 World University Rankings, ranked the University of Canterbury 212th overall in the world, and the third highest ranked university in New Zealand

Admission Requirement*:

Undergraduate: A student needs to qualify for University Entrance Examination. A student applying must have his secondary as well as senior secondary mark sheet with a minimum of 75%.

Postgraduate: Based on the evaluation of evidence of your ability to undertake postgraduate study in a specialist field of enquiry or professional practice. The primary basis for selection is on academic merit, however consideration may also be given to other factors. Normally the minimum requirement is a three-year bachelor's degree.

IELTS Requirements: 

Undergraduate: An average score of 6.0, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Postgraduate: An average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Fees Range:

Undergraduate: The annual tuition fees varies from 23,000 to 38,000 NZ$.

Postgraduate: The annual tuition fees varies from 26,000 to 46,000NZ$.
