About University: NUI Galway was founded in 1845 as Queen's College, Galway and was more recently known as University College, Galway (UCG). The university is divided into five colleges: The College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies, the College of Business, Public Policy and Law; the College of Engineering and Informatics, the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and the College of Science. It was named Sunday Times Irish University of the Year in 2002-2003 and 2009-2010. President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore are all past students along with Attorney General Máire Whelan and Hollywood actor Martin Sheen.

Accommodation: There are now ten student residences providing self-catering housing specifically for NUI Galway students. Of these, Corrib Village is on campus while there others are close by. They include Dunaras Village, Menlo, Cúirt na Coiribe, Gort na Coiribe, Centrepoint, Donegan Court, Atlantis, Lisdonagh and Amhra House. Meanwhile there are two smaller residences which provide full board accommodation – Ros Geal and Gort Ard. Off campus, popular places to reside include Westside, Rahoon, Glenn Dara, Corrib Park, Hazel Park and Greenfields.
